English:

With a population of 644,865, Frankfurt am Main is the biggest city in the state of Hesse. The city is named Frankfurt am Main (a/M.) because it is located on the Main River which is a tributary of the famous Rhein river. Frankfurt is a very important riverport where small ships and barges deliver and pick up goods from its harbor. Goods manufactured in Frankfurt are loaded on vessels, taken downriver a short distance (19 miles/30 kilometers) to where the Main meets the Rhein River. From there, the vessels travel northward, all the way to Rotterdam in Holland. This is a huge harbor city where big ships come from all over the world delivering and picking up cargo; some of it from Frankfurt a/M.

The a/M. after Frankfurt is there so that Frankfurt am Main is not confused with Frankfurt an der Oder (a.d.O.) This is another city in the eastern part of Germany on the Oder River.

So, now you know where Frankfurt a/M. is! We had such a fun time with Sabene, Julia, Marlene, Nadine, Christian and Stephan, the KidsCom Kids from Frankfurt. Maybe we'll see YOU the next time KidsCom goes "On Location"!
