The lighting and air conditioning are the main way older buildings loose energy. More energy efficient lighting and air flow is one way, but also what the building is made of as well. Buildings need proper insolations between the walls. Some walls are really thin and are made of plaster, whereas brick houses have a layer of insolation foam inbetween two brick layers.
