When you chat by typing, you can only use words that are in our Keep it Safe, Keep it CleanTM dictionary. If you type a word that is not in the dictionary, it will turn red and you need to change it before you can send your chat message.

If you have a word you think we should add to the Keep it Safe, Keep it CleanTM dictionary, send it in using the suggestion (book icon) on the bottom of the circle of the buttons in the Idea Seeker Universe.

There are generally two reasons why you might get kicked off of the Chat:

1. Breaking The Chat Rules
   If you were kicked out for breaking a rule, normally, you will be allowed back on the next day. Check out the Chat Rules and be sure to follow them when you come back tomorrow.
2. You didn't post anything for a long time
   In order to be fair to everyone, if you don't post a message for a really long time, you will get logged out so someone else has a chance to enter the chat. Don't worry, you can come right back in.

I got kicked out for breaking a rule. Does that mean I can never come back?

Don't worry, you can come back to The Chat. Normally, when you are kicked out for breaking a rule, you are allowed back on the next day. If anyone continues to break the rules, we can ban you from the chat longer and will contact your parents and Internet Service Provider.

The KidsCom.com Find a Key Pal program allows kids to find electronic pen pals from around the world. Only kids with a parent's permission can participate in the program. When kids search for a Key Pal, they'll be given the first name, hometown and country of their Key Pal, plus an e-mail address and other fun facts kids have provided (such as favorite TV show or music group, hobbies, etc.). Kids can have as many Key Pals as they want, but this information is given out just one child at a time to prevent anyone from getting a large number of names at once. This is the only area on KidsCom.com where a child's e-mail address is allowed to be shared with others. We strongly encourage parents to responsibly monitor their child's e-mail activities.

Since 1995 children have had many positive experiences with the Find a Key Pal Program. Because e-mail addresses are given out we want to stress the importance of being safe on the Internet. Never give out information to your Key Pal that could endanger you, like your phone number, full name, or home address. Of course we always ask that Parents help monitor their children's activities online and with their e-mail. With everyone's help we can keep the program safe and fun for the thousands of children who participate in it.

Once you become an Idea Seeker Member or Ally and sign up for the Key Pal Program, you can find friends from around the world and send fun e-mail messages.

1. Just go to the Key Pal section
2. Type in your username and password
3. Then tell us what you're looking for in a Key Pal. We'll search for the closest match. We'll give you a little info about the kid we find. Then all you have to do is click on their e-mail address and send them a message.

And remember: don't release information like your last name, home address or telephone number without your parent's OK.

1. Try using the most up-to-date version of your Web browser.
2. Try reloading or refreshing your browser. You'll find a "reload" button at the top of your Netscape Browser, or a "Refresh" button in Internet Explorer.

4. It might help to empty your saved Internet files, or cache. Be sure to have a parent or another adult do this. Here's how:
   
   On Netscape: Click on Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Cache > Clear Memory Cache.
   
   On Internet Explorer: Click on Tools > Internet Options > General > Temporary Internet Files > Delete Files
5. Try using a different kind of browser. If you're using Internet Explorer, try using Netscape. You can get these for free at the Microsoft or Netscape Web site. Be sure to have an adult help with downloading these browsers. It takes about half an hour or longer to download them.

Write Me a Story is the place where you can try your writing skills, share your imagination, read fun stories and maybe even get published on the Internet!

Each week we'll challenge you to write a story using the character, place and prop we give you. Your story can be as funny, sad or silly as you want, but nothing your parents would get mad about. (Speaking of parents, you should get their OK before sending your story to us because many people around the world might be reading your work.)

Each week we select five stories by kids 11 and younger and five by kids 12 and older to put in the Ballot Box. That's where all kids can vote for their favorite story of the week. The two stories with the most votes in each age group will be showcased in Stunningly Stupendous Stories the next week!

Don't forget: for safety's sake leave out personal information like your last name, phone number, e-mail or home address in your story.

The KidsCom.com Staff selects the stories which are placed in the Ballot Box. Kids vote for the ones to land a spot in Stunningly Stupendous Stories.

How can I get my story in Stunningly Stupendous Stories?
First it needs to be selected by the KidsCom.com Staff for placement in the Ballot Box area. Then your story would need to be the story from one of the two age groups that receives the most votes. Then it would be showcased on the Stunningly Stupendous Stories page.

When does the character, place and prop change?
The character, place and prop change every Wednesday. (We do our best to stay on schedule.)

Does my story have to be 500 words?
No, your story does not have to be 500 words long. It can be as short or as long as you want.

Can I enter more than one story each week?
Yes, you can enter as many stories as you want each week.

How are the stories picked?
The KidsCom.com Staff makes its selections each week and looks for originality, creativity and how the character, prop and place are woven into the story. And remember we want to read what you have to say, not someone else's ideas.
